Journey
How I Got Here
Hey, I’m Jonathan — a platform engineer based in the Greater Bremen Area. I currently work at Scalable Capital, where I focus on building and maintaining the internal developer platform: EKS clusters, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps metrics, and the tooling that helps engineering teams ship safely and efficiently.
My path into software wasn’t a straight line. I started out as a carpenter, did my social service, then studied Media Computer Science and later Complex Software Systems in Bremen. I’ve been writing code professionally since 2013 — from tutoring students and building Android apps, to leading technical teams as engineering lead, to the cloud infrastructure and platform engineering work I do today.
When I’m not coding I’m usually outside with my camera, out on a bike ride, or tinkering with home automation.
Experience
Setup and maintenance of EKS clusters. Building complex and decentralized applications to integrate DevOps platforms and compliance. Contributing to open source tools (Atlantis & Mattermost). Implementing a system to track and visualize DORA metrics across the company. Building modern and reusable CI/CD pipelines and supporting teams in adopting them.
Built a CI/CD platform for all engineers at Scalable Capital, enabling safe and lean cloud deployments. Built a platform to track DevOps metrics across a multi AWS account setup.
SRE role focused on cloud reliability and operations — the starting point at Scalable Capital.
Designed and built internal web applications (front- and backend). Set up and maintained CI/CD pipelines in GitLab for the whole organisational unit. Rewrote legacy Java applications into smaller, faster services using Go.
Led technical direction: writing concepts, project management, building DevOps and monitoring environments, evaluating new technology stacks, and developing web applications. Planned and evolved a research project (projekt-isabella.de).
Started as a working student building Android apps in small Scrum teams. Became the driver for CI/CD automation using GitLab. Took on project management and software architecture responsibilities over time.
Development and maintenance of an existing CRM system. Refactoring and optimizing the codebase, producing new modules in close cooperation with customers. Agile, small-team environment.
Reworked lecture material and developed programming tasks for first and second semester students.
